What is an implant?<\/h2>\n

An implant is an \u201cartificial root\u201d that is surgically inserted into the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone. The root then offers a firm mount for the replacement tooth (single tooth, bridge or prosthesis) placed upon it. Tooth implants are generally made of titanium, a metal well tolerated by the human body. In accordance with the number of teeth missing, implants can serve as mounts for single crowns, bridges, or dental prostheses.<\/p>\n

What is the exact sequence of implantation?<\/h2>\n

As a general rule the placement of dentures on top of implants is the most advantageous solution for replacing missing teeth. The implant is inserted into the jawbone under local anaesthetic. Once the implant has fused together with the jawbone \u2013 this process may take up to several months* \u2013 the permanent denture can be mounted on the implant.<\/p>\n

In order to be able to fuse completely and permanently with the jawbone, implants require sufficient healthy bone substance. If the available volume of bone is insufficient for an implant, bone substance can be regenerated by the insertion of bone regeneration material. Implantation is carried out once sufficient jawbone has grown.<\/p>\n
